11:03 EDT - Greece's Syriza party, which has campaigned against the
harsh terms of the country's existing bailout, has been more
successful at mobilizing supporters than its rival New Democracy ahead
of the June 17 vote, Eurasia Group says in a note. Spain's
"conditionality-light" bailout of its banks also gives Syriza "a
potential trump card to substantiate its claim of consequence-free
bailout renegotiation," Eurasia says. But even if it wins the most
votes, it is unlikely to win an absolute majority, meaning "it is not
a foregone conclusion that it will push Greece toward euro exit."
Syriza would need to negotiate with other parties to govern, and a
default and euro exit would likely lead to a quick end to its term in
office, Eurasia notes. (matt.walter@dowjones.com)
